Butterfly Pop Up Box Card

Butterfly Pop Up Box Card
Hi friends sharing a special card I made as my DT project for Cuttlebugmania 's 5th Anniversary  Challenge. Being able to sustain a Challenge blog for so long is no mean feat and hat's off to Jannie the owner!
The theme this time is to use your manual diecutting machine to make a project inspired by a  DT project from the very first Challenge. Jannie is the reason I am a member of Cuttlebugmanis Challenge and I love Jannie's creations! She makes such sweet cards , decorations and unique gifts. So I decided to use this beautiful   card made by Jannie as my inspiration.
Jannie's Card
I loved the idea of gorgeous pink butterflies fluttering above the grass and the pink flowers!
Butterfly Pop Up Box Card
As you know I love dimensional cards and though I am doing rather poorly in the time management department right now, I did manage to make a Pop Up Box Card with the cutest pink flowers[ made using pearls and foamiran]
Butterfly Pop Up Box Card
The fluttering butterlfies were made using a very old stamp - die set from Hero Arts- Sizzix and are hovering above the flower bed on transparent supports.

In the picture below you can see the  dimensional window made using 3 layers of of the Sizzix Tim Holtz Window diecuts on a gorgeous image from Lemoncraft papers.

Christmas Pop Up Box Card

Pop Up Box Card
Hi friends....first of all Thank you so much for your understanding and well wishes about my new Husky puppy[in previous post: Desktop Organizer]. Even though I have had dogs all my life this particular guy is an everyday challenge.Especially want to thank Chriss for her advice! Puppy no longer runs away with my craft sponges and scissors...he just sits and stares  longingly and barks at them!! But yes the Glue bottle was irresistible and he did run away with it once!
Here is my DT post for Maureen's Rudolph Days Challenge where the theme is always Christmas.
I made a Pop Up Box Card using some really gorgeous but very bright papers from DCWV. I struggled to find embellishments to match the papers till after several trials  I found stenciling through die-cuts with matching Distress Ink solved the issue!
So here are some crafty tips:
1.Make your own perfectly color coordinated elements
When you struggle to find matching embellishments try to use your stencils/dies and inks to make your own perfectly matching elements
Some dies especially dies from Spellbinders and Marianne are fabulous to stencil through. In the picture below you can see the plain diecuts [from Marianne Designs] I used on this card before inking them .
Die-cutting Tips
2.Distress Inks  are the easiest to use with stencils/ dies as they smudge the least , dry fast and the color palette is fabulous .

Die- cutting Tips
3. For stenciling , instead of using expensive finger daubers use cheap makeup/other sponges as the edges of the die can  destroy your dauber in no time! Reserve your dauber for delicate work like creating distress Inks  backgrounds etc!

Dauber !
4.If you have time you can add glitter/ embossing powder to further enhance the look of your stenciled die cuts like in this post on   3 D Chariot Tutorial.

Die- cutting Tips
5. If you are using colored paper/ pattern paper to make flower...take a few extra moments to ink the edges of the die with matching Distress Inks  ...it enhances the look of your project always! I used  a Marianne Poinsettia die with DCWV pattern paper to make my 3 D poinsettias.
Poinsettia
I used a  clear crystal on the scroll style Marianne die cut and love how it looks like a gem!
Pop Up Box Card
In the picture below you can see the cute image ...a stamp from Wild Rose Studio colored using Staedtler water-color pencils and Zig Watercolor Brush Pens. I purposely kept the image muted in colors in an otherwise super colorful card!

I hope you liked my card. And do participate in the Rudolph Days Challenge with a Christmas Project.
Crafting is a huuuge Challenge right now with my puppy. Life is so busy I dont get time to cook dinner on many days! My daughter's vacation will start this week and then my chores are going to be much lighter and I will be able to squeeze in time to visit my blogger pals!

Desk Organizer with Handmade Flowers

Desk Organizer with Handmade Flowers
Hi friends...first of all my apologies for not visiting. At the end of this post I will share what has been keeping me busy!
This project is my DT post for Crafters Corner where I am showcasing the gorgeous array of glitters and pollen from Dress My Craft. It is also my DT post for Cuttlebugmania Challenge where the theme is "Spring".
Handmade Flowers
This project started off as a simple decoupaged desk organizer using gorgeous Graphic 45 papers. But it looked too mundane so I added lots of handmade lilies , matching flower buds and butterflies!
Handmade Flowers
The  lilies were made with Heartfelt creations  Sunrise Lily stamps and dies .The Pink-peach ones are paper blooms made to sparkle using "sparkling dust".The white lilies were made by stamping and heat embossing on parchment paper and the lovely centers are from the new pastel pollen collection from Dress My Craft .
Mini Bottle Charm
The tiny  bottle has "micro mini pearls" and "little hearts" both Dress My Craft best sellers! I made the  little butterfly sparkle beautifully using my favorite Rainbow glitter also featured in this earlier post : Pop Up Box Card .

The beautiful  range of  glitters and pollen  available now is simply amazing. I especially love the styrofoam buds....not only are they fabulous to make rose buds, roses and other flower centers but they are fabulous to use as stand alone pollen too.
Styrofoam Pollen
The styrofoam pollen is available in 2 varieties- pointed and round and in a lovely range of sizes .
Sharing a simple pictorial on how you can use them to custom make the perfect matching embellishments for your project.
Flower bud Tutorial
Sponge the styrofoam buds in colors to match your project.

Flower bud Tutorial
Apply a few drops of  a tacky glue which dries clear. I bought this Elmer's craftbond tacky glue recently and just loved that it was fluid enough to spread easily but tacky enough to hold all the glitters quickly.

Flowerbud Tutorial
Smear the glue to get a nice even coating- using your little finger is the easiest option!

Flowerbud Tutorial
Now the fun part- simply dunk the bud into a jar of rainbow glitter chunks .

Glitter Tutorial
Swirl the bud and lift it up and voila you have a shimmering little flower bud!

Glitter Tutorial
Stick the buds on foam/sponge and allow to dry.The Elmer's glue I used dries fairly fast so it's wonderful for impatient crafters!
Glitter buds
In this project the glittering white buds were made by simply dunking the glue smeared buds directly in rainbow glitter chunks without coloring them.
Handmade Flowers

The butterflies dotted all over the project were also given a lovely shimmer using rainbow glitter chunks.
Handmade Flowers
The rainbow glitter chunks gives a more dazzling effect compared to rainbow glitter and the best part is you can use the exact hues you used on the rest of our project and hence make the perfect embellishments!
Handmade Flowers

This technique of making your own flower buds / pollen is so fun! I experimented with the wide range of Dress My Craft glitters and loved the different effects I could achieve with different glitters!
Glitters
I will show you the effect using microfine glitter.

Glitter Tutorial
This time I used Aleene's glue - love this glue for a lot of projects but for this particular technique I like the more fluid elmer glue as Aleene's is thick and one needs to be more patient to get a nice even coating of glue without leaving lumps.

Glitter Tutorial
Like earlier dunk the bud into glitter- used microfine glitter here.

Glitter Tutorial
I love the subtle shimmery frosted look!

Glitter Tutorial
I used Marianne die cuts on the central dividers and also gave them a subtle sparkle!

Desk Organizer
I just love the beautiful papers from Graphic 45

Graphic 45 Papers
It is always difficult to cut through your favorite papers but I think it is better to make something beautiful for the home that you can look at everyday than hoard it inside a drawer!!
Desk Organizer with Handmade Flowers
The beautiful centers of my lilies were made with lovely pollen bunches from Crafters Corner.  I love you liked my spring themed desktop organizer. I dont know how practical it would be to use this but hehe it does look pretty doesnt it!
Desk Organizer with Handmade Flowers
And here is the reason I have been so busy the past 2 weeks....meet the new member of our family 4 month old "Toffee" and hehe don't be deceived by his sweet name...he is one mischievous fella. He is such a naughty bundle that while I was making this project he managed to run away with the glue bottle, the sponge and even the scissors ! And yes he did munch one of the flowers too!!
Our Siberian Husky Toffee
