Craft Supply Stores in India

Getting craft supplies in India is a challenge . Even though I stay in Bangalore which is a metro I am always on the lookout for craft material be it paper, punches, glue dots ,embellishments etc.
In this post I would like to share with you some of  the craft stores I have found in Bangalore , online links and shops in other Indian Cities shared by blogger crafters
Check back often on this post as I shall keep updating this based on new shops I discover or new buying experiences.
Please do post your favorite Indian craft supply stores here. Give as much details as possible such as City and area,Craft supply available eg paper, punches etc
Whether you consider it pricey , high quality etc and if your craft store is a friendly neighborhood store do tell us if you have to bargain!
For Indian Crafters selling supplies :please do post  your  link or contact number here so that everyone can benefit
General Guideline to Buying Craft Supplies
What I have found when buying craft materials be it card stock , papers, punches or the fancier cutting dies...prices vary tremendously from shop to shop, city to city ,seller to seller and even within the same shop or seller from time to time!!
Craft sellers especially online sellers keep having sales and discounts which may be seasonal/festive or as a competitive strategy[to compete with other sellers having the same product].
Often craft supply sellers lower their prices by several hundred rupees to beat the competition or clear their stock [ If you are buying when the stuff goes on sale its ok but how about the other side of the coin?I have personally been  unluckily affected by this trend when just days or weeks after I buy a product the same seller decreases the price to a considerably lower rate].
So if you are planning to buy fancy stuff online do explore prices, shipping charges, discounts etc at the different seller's sites.
And if its something new and you dont know comparative costs, do resist  and wait for at least a few weeks as prices tend to fall when the competition joins in !!

Online Craft Shop Links Based in India

[Disclaimer : I dont get any incentive to write this review-- just sharing  experiences about my craft purchases!! Only giving details about the sellers with whom I have had experience buying]

Itsy Bitsy

Extremely well organized website. Huge range of projects for paper crafters, school projects, jewellry making, clay crafts.
    • Free shipping for purchase above 1500 and store pickup option saves on courier charges
I usually buy directly from the shop but later discovered some stuff like certain dies and magnetic sheets are actually sold only online. One can spend hours on the Itsy Bitsy website!! Packaging is perfect and even single papers are packed meticulously. Thorough professionals!
    • Tip : Has periodical sales and so its a good idea to subscribe to their email newsletter and follow Itsy Bitsy on facebook .
    • Itsy Bitsy sponsors several craft challenges and gives away gift vouchers to the winner of these challenges so have fun and participate in the craft challenges.See link for Indian Craft Challenges

The Craft Shop.in [Chennai]

- Owned by Priya Sivaraj a talented crafter from Chennai. She not only has the fancy stuff such as imported dies but some very basic crafting supplies such as acrylic blocks for stamping, binder rings, cute shaped buttons, economically priced ink pads, quilling kits, pearls in unique colors etc
The first item I purchased from Priya were Sizzix scallop oval dies and I was very much impressed with her professional dealings .Since then I have bought from her several times and her service is always super fast.
    • Very fast service. She will ship you the product in no time at all!
    • Shipping rates are nominal and averages just 45 rupees and many a times she has waived off shipping too!
    • Tip :Since her products are often unique and her prices competitive...her stuff sell out pretty fast. So you have to be fast to get the good bargains!

Crafters Corner[Delhi ]

Crafters Corner is managed by crafter Shalini Mittal who also teaches crafting [quilling, punchcraft, card making and scrapbookingat Delhi. Her shop has a huge range of imported craft supplies ranging from exotic punches and dies to paper cutting machines. I bought some fantastic Cheery Lynn dies from Shalini in Nov 2012 when she had a sale for them.I was super pleased by the prompt service--I got notification when the money was transferred ,when the parcel was sent with courier tracking number and delivering in 1 working day !I was thrilled that her courier charges are nominal [always a concern with online shopping!] and she even waived off the courier charge since it was my first purchase. One more thing I especially like about her is she is very very prompt in responding to product queries be it on face book or email.
A very intelligent entrepreneur...the crafters corner team send me a discount coupon to tempt me to spend on my birthday..and yes I couldn't resist the offer!
For the die hard crafter her store is a must visit !

  • If you want imported craft goodies this may well be your first stop as the range is huge!
  • She offers further discounts on wholesale purchase
  • Tip : Keep a watch on their facebook page as many a times discounts are announced on facebook rather than on the website!

Lulupu [Gurgaon]

Managed by one of the most experienced crafters in India Karuna Chauhan.
The website stocks some essential craft supplies which form the very basis of paper crafting such as scoreboards [ a must have paper crafting tool] and Paper cutters. She also stocks  lots of unique media such as snowtex, utee and gesso.I have often had people asking me where to buy Washi and Lulupu is the place to go for washi tapes...they have a huge range!!
I recently bought the famous Martha Stewart spring scissors, snowtex and Lindy's mist from Lulupu and was very happy with the packing and the prompt delivery of the package.Once you order online, the team promptly sends you order confirmation emails with payment details and once shipped the courier tracking numbers too.
  • Shipping is weight based and the weight of each product is listed and so you get a very clear idea of the shipping rates
  • A big advantage is the Cash on delivery option at a nominal extra fees.
  • Tip : Participate on the Lulupu facebook and blog contests to win gift vouchers to the shop

Jovi-[Mumbai]

I bought some exclusive fantastic shiny papers,Pie Lane products and  many Jef punches from Jovi. Since she is a very creative crafter herself she stocks stuff which are in vogue! Jovi is a dear blogger friend and a warm and helpful person!

 Imaginations

Imaginations Craft Shop

Managed by crafter Aditya Gupta.I made my online purchase from him in Nov 2011 and I was so happy as it was my first online purchase .I had been very traditional so far and not purchased anything online but my apprehensions were all allayed with this experience! His website is professional and his service fast and efficient! You get an order confirmation, various payment options including an easy Bank transfer option which I had opted for.I was asked my preference of courier, permission to ship and even received a little surprise package! I bought a Scorpal and Friskars tweezers from his shop and they arrived well packed and promptly. My first online experience was a success!
One of the best things about dealing with Aditya is he sends you prompt mails or sms when he receives the money, then again when he dispatches the products ..he is very prompt in giving courier tracking numbers and packs the products well.
Only a limited variety of Punches and dies .

A 1 craft supply[Mumbai]

I was most attracted to her shop for the economically priced punches and the interesting embellishments! I didnt buy online from them but picked up the stuff when I went to Mumbai. The young couple who run the business have some exquisite stuff which are not too hard on your pocket.I took quite a number of punches and got a good discount too. I must especially appreciate the fact that when I reported some issues with 4 punches I had bought they immediately replaced the same without any fuss even taking the trouble to travel hours in Mumbai traffic to deliver the new punches.
Mansi [Delhi]-- sells mostly imported stuff  such as punches and dies! She has a hand on the pulse of latest crafty goods in the world!

    Hi Sonia,

I am a beginner and this post was a huge help.
However, I tried to search for card stock in Pune, but they have no idea what it is.

Is there any other term for it?

    ~~Renuka

    ReplyDelete
  47. Renuka you are right most shops will have no idea what is card stock-- ask for thick paper and if they have it buy in bulk as in most of our shops what I find is they quickly run out of stock. Try in big stationary shops.. ask them to show you the varieties of papers and you just might be lucky.Thick chart paper for school projects is available for 10 to 12 rupees for a large sheet and though the color range will be limited its enough to get you started! I dont favor expensive imported card-stock such as fabriano as I find local ones are cheaper and good enough!

  81. Hi Dr.Sonia,

Here is my two cents worth:

    1) Hobby Ideas has shifted from Inorbit Mall, Mumbai to Infinity Mall, Malad (W)-- just down the road from Inorbit.
    2) There is a chain of stationery stores called Anupam - I know the ones at Goregaon(E) and Borivali(W)stations... They have loads of art and craft supplies + Pie Lane stuff. No cuttlebug dies and such but you will find quilling supplies and punchcraft tools
    3) In Malad (W) there is a lane, next to MM mithaiwala, which stocks all sorts of traditional laces and ribbons, stones, fancy buttons and all. It is called Gupta market.
    4) Also in Malad (E) - Rani Sati Marg, there are wholesale suppliers of beads, stones and jewellery making accessories.

    Hope this helps someone!

I used to have issues in finding craft supplies in Kolkata since I stay in Orissa and decided to source them myself for others who faced similar issues in this part of India. My products are displayed on facebook page: facebook.com/key2designs which includes punches, card making paper, buttons, ribbons and laces (same stuff but much cheaper than Raja stores in Chennai, quilling materials, stamping acrylic blocks (much cheaper than most places). As I started this recently, will be adding more stuff slowly. can you help me in knowing if anyone in hyderabad will take classes for card making . I am seriously interested to learn. searched a lot but couldn't find anything. Do also help me with any craft supply shops in hyderabad other than jagadamba fancy stores

    1. Malavika dont attend classes to learn card making...a waste of money when you can learn just by browsing the net and experimenting yourself !! I would only recommend craft classes to learn classic techniques such as painting or sculpting.! And sorry dont know about hyderabad stores other than what links readers like yourself have provided

Im also interested in learning terracatta jewellery making, and need to know where I can get the clay and kiln from, would anyone have any feedback?

Im thinking of doing a course as so little info about it is available on the net, is it important to have a Govt authenticated certificate, would anyone know?

      Much Regards to all

    3. Ohh thank you so much Dr Sonia, I rang itsybitsy they don't stock them anymore but Devi and Co do!!

I have another question....I want to learn terracotta jewellery making but as there is so little info about it on the web, I will have to do a course in Bangalore. I live 3 hours away from Bangalore in Andhra Pradesh and am wondering does anyone know of a good online course in Bangalore that I could do from home?

Also Ive read that its a good idea to have Govt authenticated certificate after the course.....is this really necessary to be able to go on and sell the jewellery I make?

      Many Regards to all
      Anjali

      Delete
    4. Anjali as far as I know there is no need for any certificate course to sell your own jewelry !Most crafts can be learnt on your own..experiment on your own before taking all the trouble to go to classes!

    5. Anyone who buys jewelry will be looking at the beauty of your designs not the certificate!

  117. Awesome, thanks for this round up of stores in Blr! Do you also know where I can get self adhesive magnetic tapes in Blr, the ones we can cut and use for making fridge magnets?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Dear Ambika I have not found self adhesive magnetic tapes but have seen magnetic tapes for crafting at Orion mart Ebrahim street but I did not buy as the magnetic effect was not of good standard. I bought A 4 size magnetic sheets from Itsy Bitsy and use them for crafting. Also try for magnetic tapes rolls from hardware shops..they may stock as the carpenters tend to use it too and not only us crafters! I recently went to a hardware shop in Commercial street and the shop keeper said his stock had just got over so you will surely find in other hardware shops too.
